Designing a nonprofit website that encourages dog adoption, volunteering, and community support

Project

Harbor Tail Rescue is a concept website for a nonprofit dog rescue organization. The project explores how UX design can build trust, create emotional connection, and guide visitors toward meaningful actions such as adopting a dog, volunteering, or supporting the organization through donations.

The Goal

The website was designed to help visitors:

  • Meet adoptable dogs

  • Learn about the rescue's mission

  • Donate or support the organization

  • Apply to volunteer

  • Contact the rescue with adoption inquiries

My Approach

I structured the website around the journey of someone interested in helping rescue dogs. The experience introduces the organization's mission, showcases adoptable pets, and provides clear opportunities to take action through adoption, volunteering, or donations.

The design combines approachable branding, clear navigation, and responsive layouts to create an experience that is welcoming and easy to use on any device.

Design Decisions

Adoptable Dog Showcase: Dedicated adoption pages present each dog with photos and key information, making it easier for visitors to browse available pets and begin the adoption process.

Donation & Support CTAs: Calls to action are placed throughout the website to encourage donations and other forms of support without interrupting the browsing experience.

​

Volunteer Application Forms: Simple application forms make it easy for visitors to express interest in volunteering, helping reduce friction for people who want to get involved.

​

Rescue Story & Blog Structure: Storytelling pages and a blog provide updates on rescue efforts, adoption success stories, and educational content that strengthens trust and builds a sense of community.

Mobile-Friendly Adoption Pages: The website was designed responsively in Wix Studio so visitors can browse adoptable dogs, complete inquiries, and access important information from any device.

Contact & Inquiry System: Clear contact options and inquiry forms help potential adopters ask questions or begin the adoption process quickly and confidently.

What I Learned
